- I’m Minda, John’s cousin. My family and I live next door to him.

- How far is the public market from here? Can you come with me?
- Okay, I’ll take you there. Besides, you’ll never get off this island alive if something happens to me.
- Oh, John will be back soon. He must have left early to check on the ranch.
- Tim wanted to try eating foods in the public market and so he invited Minda to escort him there and had their lunch.
- Would you prefer a Filipina or an American girlfriend?

- John is having a party in his house in honor of Tim. Meanwhile, Tim asked Minda to be his first dance.
- I really don’t know. But I know I want someone like you—pretty, happy, and not afraid to speak out. Too bad you’re too young.
