Storyboard Text

  • This Lesson we will be discussing the digestive system.
  • The first step of the digestive system happens before the food even enters the mouth. When you see and smell food, your mouth fills with saliva containing enzymes which digests the starch in the food into glucose which is the chemical digestion part of the mouth and the mechanical digestion part is the teeth chewing your food to smaller parts to make it easier to swallow. 
  • The food then goes down the esophagus which is a long tube that goes from your throat to the stomach, which the next stage. 
  • The stomach has a gastric juice containing mucus digestive enzymes and hydrochloric acid, it also has muscles that contract and expand breaking down the food into smaller pieces util it becomes chyme.
  • The small intestine absorbed nutrients and releases it into the blood stream this becomes easier with villi. The large intestine absorbed what is left from the small intestine such as water and salt. The waste then enters the rectum then to be released through the anus as feces.
  • Other parts of the digestive system include the liver and the pancreas. The liver removes toxins and stores bile which is a juice that digests fat. The pancreas which produces there types of digestive enzymes, the proteases, amylase and lipase.
