- Makenna looks out the window and sees San Jose. There are many buildings but they aren't tall. Dr Parker tells Makenna that they aren't tall because there are frequent violent earthquakes in San Jose.
- A man named Cecilio waits at the airport for them. He tells them that he is a chauffer and a security guard for the Hacienda.
- Cecilio takes Makenna and Dr Parker on a tour of San Jose. He gives them los of information about Costa Rica and takes them to the Hacienda
- Cecilio shows them his house by the hacienda and introduces them to his family. Cecilio's wife tells Makenna the birds are screaming.
- Makenna and Dr Parker get to their house. It is small and only has one room and an attic.
- Since there is only one room, Dr Parker has to sleep on the couch.
