I implement these tariffs effective immediately.
The South Get Angry
This tariff is unconstitutional!
The Compromise
Stop this at once!
Andrew Jackson passed a tariff in 1828 which was a tax on imported goods which was supposed to protect American manufacturing from cheap British goods.
The South did not like this tariff and thought that is was unconstitutional. John C. Calhoun, the vice president said the states did not have to enforce the tariff. South Carolina even threatened to secede.
Andrew Jackson did not like this and lowered the tariff. The South still did not like the tariff, so Andrew Jackson sent the army to stop of all of this once and for all.
