- Cabeza de VacaHis expedition gotlost and was forced to build boats to sail back to Mexico in 1528.
- La Salle arrived in Texas in 1685. He was already a famous French explorer. He had explored the length of the Mississippi River.
- Cortés was sent to present day Mexico by the governor of Cuba in 1519. Upon arrival the Aztecs viewed Cortés and his men as gods because of their horses, firearms, and metal armor. Eventually, with the help of Aztec enemies, the Spanish were able to overthrow the Aztecs.
- Alonso ÅIvarez de Pineda In 1519 Pineda set out from Jamaica to map the coast of the Gulf of Mexico. He became the first European to observe the Texas coast. He did not finish his mission. Some of his men were arrested by Hernan Cortes, who saw the explorers as a threat to his mission.
- Francisco Våsquez de Coronado and more than 1000 men went in search for the city in 1540. They found the Grand Canyon, the Pacific Ocean, and explored all the way into present-day Kansas, but never found the city of gold.
- Christopher Columbuswas one of the greatest explorers.He made the first connection between Europe and America.
