- -ducks have webbed feet that help them swim in the water. There are kind of like fins that you use for swimming. This is also used to hunt fish because they can dive down and swim fast. Since vancouver has a lot of water and fish this wood be a perfect location for a duck to adapt to having webbed feet- Duck feathers have two uses one is because they have an oil coat over them which keeps them warm and allows them to swim fast in the water since their feathers won't float everywhere therefore they won't slow the duck down. Second, the fur is heavy so it will help them dive down and catch seafood.- The ducks' beaks are dependent on the species such as some ducks have comb like membranes in their beaks which allow them to easily swallow small fish such as baby trout. Another type is long and thin beaks which allow ducks to catch fish more easily but they would have to carve it up into small pieces and eat it.-ducks have strong wings. These wings allow them to swoop down into the water, get a fish and fly out of the water. These wings have the oil covered feathers which allows them to fly through water without being slowed.- behavioural adaptations some duck breeds actually behave differently depending on where they live and they adapt. Such as harlequin ducks, they leave their nest earlier than other ducks to find more food since where they live has food scarcity.
- Since ocean level rise mallard ducks would have to adapt to different environments on the mountain top if they can make it. Most likely a lot of them will die off but the ones that are close to the mountains will survive. But the ones who survive will have to deal with different environments such as rocky terrain and steep hills. This caused more feet with more grip and wings with more strength.Food changesBecause of the sea level a lot of fish will stay deep under water since there will not be any ponds this forces the ducks to feed off of plants or other ground species. This causes sharper teeth since they need to cut through the thick meat, also stronger legs and a longer beak since those two are needed to jump up from the water and catch a land animal.Colour changes The mallard duck has changed to a ocean like colour which helps them since if they blend in with the water and the water predators are deep in the ocean but there are still ground predators it makes it so the ground predators cant see them.Behaviour changeMallard ducks are now way more aggressive since food is limited and hard to get by the ocean so the mallard ducks kind of splitted into a free for all which caused ducks to kill each other and only sparring the females to reproduce. This has also caused cannibalism when a duck can't find any food. But it has also caused hunting benefits such as using more power to catch food.Lung capacity Mallard ducks can now hold their breath underwater for long periods of time due to the fact some ducks were forcing themselves to hide under water for a very long time so they could catch food. This is also used to hide from other ducks that are hungry .
