- Coraline Jones is in a sour disposition as of late since moving. Her friends are away, her outlook combative, it's bleak, boring, and foreign. Never one to stand idly by, however, she'll meet her neighbors. Strange inhabitants, they are, of a strange estate and a dark history. Disliking her living situation, the Beldam smells vulnerability. (Exposition)
- No! Don't listen! They're not real!
- Mom & Dad are always too busy for me! This place sucks. There's nothing to do! And why did Why-were-you-born give me this doll?
- Follow us Coraline to a land where dreams come true! Through the door!
- Count the windows, Coraline and let me work, please!~ Love, Dad
- Conflict - Having opened a door in the living room , Coraline discovers a portal to the Other World. She is both surprised and intrigued. She also isn't sure if her parents will believe her. But anything to get away from the boredom is welcome. The mice introduced Coraline to a new, enchanted world.
- What is this place behind the door?
- 🎵Our eyes will be on Cor-a-line!🎵
- Coraline, go get your father for supper. I think he's in the study.🙄
- So hungry....
- Rising Action - Coraline meets with the Other Couple. They feed her and have dinner together. The Other Father warns Coraline through a song. Coraline is introduced to the Other neighbors and the garden. She's both amazed and slightly concerned.
- Huh???
- Rising Action - Coraline discovers the truth of the Other World by means of the Ghost children. They tell her to fetch their souls from the Other Neighbors. They also warn her of the ever-present danger of the Other Mother and her constant tricks. Coraline is encouraged, though, to stay determined by challenging the Beldam. With the help of the cat, the souls are collected.
- I don't like rats at the best of times, but this one was raising an alarm!
- Thief! Thief! Thief! Give it baaaaaack!!!
- I'm leaving!
- Climax- Coraline confronts the Beldam in the living room. The Ghost Children warn Coraline of the Beldam's refusal to let her go. Coraline tricks the Beldam into inspecting the door. Coraline grabs her parents off the fireplace mantle, with the Other Mother distracted. To buy more time, Coraline flings the cat at the Beldam, stunning her. The cat then renders her blind, leaving Coraline the opportunity to escape her web .
- Sorry, but I'm not about to have my soul taken and be eaten alive!
- YOU DARE DISOBEY YOUR MOTHER!!!!??????You selfish brat! I'll die without you!
- I'm taking my parents home too, you evil witch!
- Nooo, cat! Get off! And give me the key!
- Falling Action/Resolution - Having chucked the Beldam's hand down the well, the Other World is no more. Everyone gets lemonade and congratulates Coraline's family on completing their garden. The Beldam's grip on the Pink Palace has been dissolved. The ghost children's souls are at peace. Everyone lives happily ever after. The Cat slinks off into the distance.
