Odysseus is on the way back home until he was disturbed by a storm which has now taken him to an island.
Odysseus told the men that he has found a den with food. So the headed to the den that had food for them to feast on. They had to wait for the owner of the den to come back to receive the gift that is supposed to be given to him because he is from a different island.
The Cyclops was the owner of the den that Odysseus and his crew have gone into and ate all of his food. The Cyclops returns home seeing that all of his food is gone, he is mad.
After stabbing the Cyclops in the eye with the sharpened club that Odysseus made, there was a chance to escape. They had to use the sheep for their escape, Odysseus tied all of his crew under the sheep so that the Cyclops wouldn't know how they got out. The plan worked.
Odysseus and his crew made it out safely other than the men he lost because of the Cyclops' hunger. As he rowed away from the island he yelled out his name to the furious Cyclops, only making his journey worse.
