- st francis was born it italy 1181. He was known for drinking and partying at youth . after fighting in a battle between Assisi and Perugia, francis was captured and went to prison for almost a year. His full name was Giovanni di Pietro di Bernardone.

- After his realise from prison Francis her the voice of christ that told him to repair the Christan Church and live a life of poverty.

- St Francis gave up his wealth to help the poor. He began what is now the Order of St Francis and started wearing brown clothes to show who he is.

- The Franciscans are a group of related mendicant religious orders within the Catholic Church, founded in 1209 by Saint Francis of Assisi. These orders include the Orders of Friars Minor, the Order of Saint Clare, and the third order of Saint Francis.
- Determined to bring the Gospel to all people of the world, Francis sought on several occasoins to take his message out of italy. In the late spring of 1212, he set out for Jerusalem, but was shipwrecked by a storm on the Dalmatian coast, forcing him on to return to Italy.
- - It was named after St Francis of Assisi. - Francis died at the age of 45 at the Portiuncula ( the little chapelwhich is inside the church of St Mary of the Angles in Assisi) in the year 1226. Two years laterhe was declared a saint.
