- After meeting Alice Cogswell, a deaf girl, Thomas Gallaudet was yearing to learn more about how he could communicate with Alice
- Gone to France
- Please join me and teach me, the deaf need education
- Wanting to find out more, Thomas went on a journey to Europe to learn more about on how he could educate the deaf so he could possibly start a school

- Once Thomas arrived to Europe, Braidwood was opposed to sharing their ways of communicating. But Thomas wasnt going to stop there, he wasnt satisfied with the results so he goes to Frace in hope of getting help
- The 1st deaf school was established
- After being rejected by Braidwood Thomas headed over to France. There, he met Laurent Clerc, who accompanied him back to America. Sicard was hesitant on letting him go but he eventually allowed him to go.

- Clerc went on to teaching grade students who later became educated deaf leaders. They all spread the word about him, making him a great leader who greatly impacted the deaf community.
- On April 15, 1817, the first school for the deaf opened in America. Its original name was the Connecticut Asylum at Hartford for the Instruction of Deaf and Dumb Persons.Aside from that one,there were other school's being built all around America for the deaf.
