He became president after the assassination of McKinley and the Twenty-Fifth Amendment had to be invoked
Used presidential and federal power to break up some trusts and get the power for the government to investigate and regulate many different types of corporations, from railroads to medicine
Heavily supported ecological conservation, because of this fact he was the first president to take an active interest in the preservation movement and added many new lands to the existing but small national forest system either for ecological or resource reasons
After leaving the White House he left political life for a small time but never left the public as his trips around the world and United States was all over the press
He didn't want to have to re-enter politics but did to try and reunite the Republican Party after Taft had somewhat ruined it, and finally gave a speech on "New Nationalism" that secured his leadership
After politically horrifying events doomed his hopes to not run for the presidency, Roosevelt announced his candidacy again, for what would be his third term
Knowing he had almost no chance, he started a new Progressive party called the "Bull Moose" Party to carry on some of his later goals
