  • Even if I did, I wouldn't say.
  • Did you view yourself as one of the "certain men" when writing that?
  • Raskolnikov is surprised by Zametov's presence, causing him to get nervous. This feeling of nervousness grows as Raskolnikov starts believing that Petrovitch and the police know what he had done.

  • What happens when someone isn't "extraordinary" after all?
  • I see.
  • Razumihin begins to criticize socialist views on crime, and asks Raskolnikov for his opinion. Petrovitch joins in on the discussion and both men get into a debate on crime.
  • No, I haven't.
  • It's a trap!
  • By the way, you wouldn't happen to have seen any painters last time you visited Alyona, right?
  • Petrovitch starts a discussion on an article Raskolnikov had written "On Crime". In it, Raskolnikov argued that there were certain men above everyone else who had the ability to commit murder with no consequences.
  • Petrovitch asks Raskolnikov if he believed in the God, and read the Bible, and begin to discuss the story of Lazarus. Petrovitch and Raskolnikov share their views on what makes a man "extraordinary".
  • Before Raskolnikov leaves the house, Petrovitch asks him if he saw any painters at the pawnbroker's house the last time he visited. Raskolnikov recognizes his trap and manages to get away.
