  • Lord and Lady Capulet come to tell Juliet the supposed good news that she is going to marry Paris. When Juliet hears the news she knows that she's not going to marry him because she is in love with someone else, but her parents don't know about Romeo. So when she try's to explain to her father that she's not going to marry Paris. Lord Capulet doesn't take the news very lightly. He says "you disobedient wrench" "my fingers itch" which means I want to hit you. Her mother says Do as thou wilt, for I have done with thee. Meaning do as you want but don't come to me for anything. .
  • theme: Fate is inevitable
  • After Lord Capulet demands that Juliet marry Paris the nurse comes and try's to console Juliet. The nurse says that Juliet should marry Paris to appease her father. Since Juliet is in Verona and Romeo is exiled to Mantua he is of no use to Juliet if they can't be together.
  • Juliet uses foreshadowing, this is meant to show how much Juliet loves Romeo. Juliet shows her love by saying delay this marriage and if you don't make the bridal bed in the monument where Tybalt lies. Shes saying that she would rather die then marry Paris. This is forehshadowing because we know that Romeo and Juliet end up dying.
  • A theme that is developed in Romeo and Juliet is that fate is inevitable. Romeo and Juliet's fate is death because they were never going to get to be together because of their families. Juliet would never be happy with Paris and she can't be with Romeo because he is banished to Mantua.
