- Kirby came home to find her mother crying. Her Mum latter told her they were moving to wellington.
- What's wrong? What's the matter?
- Kirby's Mum calmed down a bit in the car but still would not talk.
- Leave it, Kirby. Just leave it!
- Mum...
- Kirby's mother was really moving to Africa and leaving her with religious family she had never even herd of. Kirby screamed and cried and threw her food at the wall while Her cousin Daniel and Uncle Caleb stayed calm, cleaned up her mess and prayed.
- Leave me out of your Damn prayers!
- Kirby (now called Esther) was caught searching through her Mums bags and was sent to the discipline room.

- Esther was thrilled to go to school where she met a counselor who she could explain all her problems to and who promised to try help her find her mother.
- Esther stayed home from school on her third day to take care of her sick aunt who had been left home alone. She turned out to be much more sick then the family had thought and was rushed of to hospital after Esther called an ambulance.
