The agreement between Schuschnigg and the Nazis (after dulfuss was murdered )
Austria and Germany were thrilled to be allowed to unite legally, Hitler was so delighted with the news that he shed tears. in Austria there was 180,000 Jews, who knew that Auschluss marked a new era where they would be in danger. Britain felt that Germany and Austria were effectively the same thing and thought they deserved to unite where as Churchill though otherwise. The Czechoslovakian government were in great fear for their country when they heard the news. Hitler now had access to the east.the Austrian army added strength to the German army.
Hitler wanted anschluss because Austria had ruled Germany for 600 years, and that they had same cultures and shared a language. Hitler believed that these 2 countries belonged together. Anschluss could also get Hitler closer to fulfilling 2 of his foreign policies: uniting all German-speaking people and destroying the treaty of Versailles because anschluss had been banned.
