  • Difference between Equity and Equality
  • Mason, I was told to find out about the difference between equity and equality for school tomorrow. They sound similar. Do they both mean the same?
  • No, they are very different. Equity is when given rights according to needs, while equality is when given equal rights.
  • These 3 plants are of different sizes, and needs water. If I give them the equal amount of water, it will be equality, but certainly not equity. The bigger plant will need more water than the others and the medium sized one will be needing more than the small one. If I quench their needs, it is equity.
  • If I split this nut into half and give one half to each of the squirrels, then they get an equal amount of food and it is fair. They are getting the equal amount of food. This is called equality.
  • ...when given equal rights. Thank you, Mason!
  • You are welcome. So, don't make the mistake of thinking equity and equality are the same again.
  • The End
