- Alright Marissa let's get you to the doctor to see what they can do to help you.
- Coach Williams it is getting really hard to breathe. I feel like my throat is closing up too.
- Alright Marissa you said you were having trouble breathing when running the mile today, so lets check your breath sounds and lungs. I also took a look at your medical records and both your parents have asthma, so you most likely do too.
- AHHHH! It's really hard to breathe and I feel like my chest is really tight.
- Alright Marissa let's get you to the Pharmacist to get your medication
- Sounds like a case of Asthma, I'm going to prescribe you a Ventolin Inhaler to help you breathe better.
- Ventolin is a Bronchodilator. The generic name is Albuterol, and it is and Inhaler that opens or dilates the airways allowing you to breathe better. It is a small metal canister with a mouth piece. You will hold this in a upright position, place the mouthpiece in your moth, and press down on the metal canister while inhaling. Make sure to take a deep breath when you push down to make sure the drug reaches the lung and doesn't stay put in your mouth too.
- Side effects include nervousness or shakiness, headache, throat or nasal irritation, and muscle aches that should go away after a few weeks of using the medication. You should also give 2 puffs every 4 to 6 hours as needed.
