The Village Washer

- Shortly after the last war in the village of Sans Souci, Trinidad there was a village washer named Ma Lambee who was the only washer in her district.
- My name is Ma Lambee and i am a village washer
- Ma Lambee can you wash this for me please
- Ma Lambee can you wash this overall for me please
- all you all know the price for washing will increase because of the war
- Because of the war, her work became unsatisfactory, because she grew careless which caused tears, loose buttons and dirt and perspiration to remain.
- a shirt will now will be 18 cents and a skirt would now be a shilling
- we will wash it for ourselves
- look what you did to my clothes
- we want a new washer woman!!!
- The villagers' complaints were heard all the way in Donkey City and their village washer moved to Sans Souci, with the hope of taking the business from Ma Lambee.
- she thinks she could come and take my business, she lie!
- Yay! A new village washer!
- I hope she's not another Ma Lambee
- Yayy.. No more ripped up clothes.
- Hi, I'm Ma Procop and I would like to be your new village washer.
- She was the only village washer and everyone depended on her to get their clothes cleaned because she would wash until all the stains came out.
- Ma Lambee lost all her customers, so she started to tell lies and spread nasty rumors about Ma Procop because she was afraid to lose her business.
- I have a new washing machine, that would make old clothes, new.
- That is a lie! We don't have current!
- She also was brazen to raise her prices and despite their complaints, she still had the audacity to tell them that if they don't like it, they can do it themselves. She lost some of her customers and some had no choice, which made Ma Lambee smile.
- Ma Lambee tactics worked so much that some of the villagers decided to confront Ma Procop to find out the truth
- Ma Procop, we heard that you are working obeah and we've come to search your house
- Look what we found in your home!
- What nonsense you talking? I don't work obeah
- Ma Procop offered pre-war prices 12 cents for a shirt and 18 cents for a skirt, experience and better quality washing, which made Ma Lambee not so fond of her. So she decided that she needed some new tactics.
- The ladies then headed to Ma Lambee's to see if Ma Procop was telling the truth

- Even though Ma Procop actions, proved she wasn't mean or evil, the people started to believe Ma Lambee and soon they began to imagine things which they thought were evil spirits. Ma Lambee saw her advantage so she studied black magic and collected evil items and planted it in Ma Procop's home to frame her, hoping the villagers would find it. So Ma Procop can return to her city
- I don't know how a you all could let her live here!
- At night, she turns into an animal.
- Ma Procop is evil and nasty and she uses children to wuk obeah.
- I wonder if Ma Lambee is telling the truth!
- Wash-up washer!
- Much to their demise they found bones and bottles and all the other things Ma Lambee planted. Ma Procop said blatantly that those things were not hers and that she was sure it belonged to Ma Lambee because she wants her to leave. One of the ladies put the mirror in Ma Procop face to see if she was the obeah woman.
- Ma Lambee must be telling a lie! Ma Procop is not guilty!
- Let's go over by Ma Lambee and give she the test with the mirror and cross.
- That isn't mine!
- When they arrived, Ma Lambee was suprised to see Ma Procop and the ladies. Ma Procop held the mirror in front of Ma Lambee's face and whispered fiercely to her. Ma Lambee was so terrified that she ran into her hut. The next day Ma Lambee moved to Donkey City with all her belongings, never to be seen in Sans Souci again.
- Nothing more to worry about. You'll never have obeah once I stay here.
- Ma Lambee, you spreading rumors' and saying that is I working obeah , when it was you
- Look we have a mirror and cross here! Come out let we test you!
