  • Yanek and his family live in Krakow, Poland. Yanek's life is fairly normal up until the Nazis invade Krakow and start taking innocent men, women, and even kids to work camps. The main conflict in this story is that Yanek and his family are taken to concentration camps but Yanek was not taken to only 1 concentration camp he was taken to 13 concentration camps.
  • Falling Action
  • The Germans eventually begin to invade Yanek's town and start taking the Jews and all of their valuables from their apartments. While this is going on Yanek and his family try to escape they run to the top of their apartment and find a big metal door leading to the roof and behind that door, they find an old pigeon coop that they turn into their new home. Yanek and his family hide there for a couple of months until the Germans find them and take them to the streets.
  • Resolution
  • Finnally!!
  • One day while at his pigeon coop Yanek is loaded up into a truck and taken to his first concentration camp in Plaszow because they needed workers. This is the first of 13 concentration camps for Yanek. Coming into the camp Yanek is stuck believing that all of his family is gone until he finds Uncle Moshe at the camp but just days later the leader of the camp Amon Goeth kills Uncle Moshe for no reason.
  • Exposition/Conflict
  • when Yanek reaches his 11th concentration camp he begins to hear sounds of planes and bombs exploding nearby. He then starts to realize that if he could survive just a little bit longer then maybe he can get out of this mess alive.

  • Yanek is put onto a train and taken to his final concentration camp. When Yanek arrives at the camp he and his fellow prisoners are escorted into their barracks. A while later the prisoners start to hear loud cracks and booms so they decide to look out of their barracks and find no one but other prisoners but at the entrance of the camp stood American Soldiers
  • The main conflict in this story is that Yanek Gruener and his family are taken and forced to work at concentration camps. Yanek and his family were worked and killed but Yanek was determined to survive and that he did but no one else did.
