The first lesson the teacher held up objects and we named them and later on we added on top of those objects making a short sentence. But with Filipinos and English we have a difficult time properly saying our "I" and "th". Luckily after a while I began to get the hang of it and recognize a lot of words.
But I also found many new interests in school like music and used the church musical training as help. The other interest is manual training which is getting better grades basically.
In school we are trying to learn English but unfortunately I know a few phrases but that is more than most of my peers.
Chapter VIII What Francisco Learned of Philippine History and Government
Chapter IX The Strength of Nature
There are various of stories about the Philippine Islands and the volcanoes.
One story in particular about the volcanoes says that there was once an Old Man living in a crater of the mountain and told the people to use the land part way up the volcano but the man disappeared for awhile and the people planted tobacco on the mountain. This angered the Old Man and he began to throw hot stones and ashes until the people left but he also took all of their tobacco crops.

Chapter X Francisco's Graduation and Trip to Manila
The book “Francisco the Filipino” by Burtis M. Little is a very interesting book in my opinion mainly because it gives an insight about the life of Filipinos back around the eighties and some of those life struggles are still being experienced today by certain parts of the Philippines. But this book really made me realize the background my ancestors came from and the challenges they faced but also how they combated those challenges. It makes me thankful for the situation that I am in but it also motivates me to work harder since my ancestors have always been working hard to get by which is the main reason why this book motivates me. But all in all this book taught me some valuable lessons and I think it's a good read since you get an eye opener on a day in the life of a Filipino.
In Chapter 8 it talks about what Francisco has learned about the history of the Philippines and who had control of it. The Spaniards first discovered about the Philippines but the leader Magellan died in battle they lost the war over the territory. But there was another attempt years later and they succeeded but they later on they gave up their power to the U.S.A. But during the seventeenth and eighteenth century the Philippines was vulnerable to attacks from many countries
Book Review
In Chapter 9 it talks about the location and the geography of the Philippines. The Philippines is really close to the equator meaning the weather there is very hot and humid and there isn't really any cold weather year round and has very fertile soil. But usually around September cyclones tend to happen and Filipinos use poles to prevent the house from being blown. There are also many volcanoes in the Philippines that wake up many people from random swaying motions.
In Chapter 10 it talks about Francisco's graduation and his trip to Manila. The day finally came when Francisco graduates his provincial school and is ready to get his certificate and celebrate with his peers. His trip to Manila was in May and once he got on the boat off to Manila all the familiar land disappears and just really took in his surroundings. Manila is such a beautiful city with many buildings like the stone walls and better education opportunities.
This cool breeze is so amazing and these flying fish just darting out of the water then diving back under.
