Today at the hospital we are to report on a bacteria outbreak.
We will be interviewing an epidemiologist to talk about the investigation of the outbreak.
How does an epidemiologist help a hospital?
If there is an outbreak in a hospital, an epidemiologist investigates into the source of it and find a way to stop the spread.
In this outbreak case, why is it so bad that only 11 people got sick? That's not that many people
11 people getting the exact same thing in a hospital is bad because this disease could potentially kill someone since this is a hospital and people are already sick
What were some of the symptoms the sick patients had?
The symptoms the patients had were: trouble breathing, mucus, congestion, coughing, respiratory infection, and a rash
Where were the patients getting the bacteria from?
The patients were getting the bacteria from all needing a saline IV and the IVs being contaminated from other patients.
Is everybody at risk of catching this bacteria?
We don't know for sure but all of the patients that had caught it, had weakened immune systems at the time or before hand
