- Since we are only changing the appearance of the wood by chopping it up then it is a physical change.
- Our campfire wood is burning, can you tell me what kind of change that is?
- Since the ashes can't go back to become wood then it is a chemical change.
- OH no! I burned the marshmallow and now I can't eat it. Can you tell me what kind of change that is?
- Since the marshmallow has burned and it it can not be reverse it to unburned state, then you know it is a chemical change.
- Since you have helped me put up the tent do you know what kind of change that is?
- I believe it is a physical change because no new substance was created and the change is reversable
