- All soils begin with solid rock. Many different factors change solid rock into soil.

- What is parent material and climate?
- Climate is when temperature affects the speed of chemical reactions the soil-the higher the temperature, the faster a reaction
- Parent material is what provides the original minerals from which the soil develops. It also influences soil fertility and texture.
- What is organisms and topography?
- Topography affects the distribution of soil particles and water.
- Macro-organisms are a source of organic matter and include large plants and animals. Microorganisms microscopic plants and organisms are primarily decomposers of organic material.
- "All those make sense but then lastly what is time?"
- Time is initially a thin layer of soil forms on the parent material. There are highly variable rates of formation. Climate & topography also influence the rate of soil formation.
