  • Environmental
  • Oh how I hate this cold weather! My crops are gone-how will I feed my family?
  • Economic
  • Dang. Maybe we should tax them more because this country is in a lot of debt...
  • Sir, the peasants are revolting against your taxes!!! What do we do?
  • Political
  • Ha-Ha! Very funny your majesty. Let's go party!
  • You know, I'm always in this darn palace. What if the people need me, and I'm not there?
  • Cold weather destroyed a lot of crops, and left a lot of peasants starving. Because there was lots of crop failure, the price of grain went up. So while the poor were starving and had to abandon their children the rich didn't notice a difference because they had grain stored up. In this way, the rich didn't notice the people starving and the common people felt neglected, as well as angry. They began to fear for their lives.
  • France was in a lot of debt. They had lost a bunch of wars with the Dutch, and they still needed to pay off the soldiers. So they decided to tax the poor, even though the majority of the upper two estates were rich. The peasants got angry, because none of the money actually went to solving the problem. All that happened was the rich throwing lavish parties while the people starved.

  • Now, I say that every estate gets one vote in what happens now...
  • Versailles was a long way out of Paris. Because of this, Louis 16th was isolated, and didn't know what his people needed. So he basically let his advisers do whatever they wanted to do, and they were selfish, so the country was thrown into turmoil. The people thought their King was lazy and didn't care about them. The King also didn't want to give up being at the top of the feudal pyramid when the people demanded change, because he was corrupt.
  • Louis called the three estates together and gave them one vote each, even thought the peasants were 98% of the population. Because of this the taxes didn't go away because the rich wanted their money, even though they didn't pay taxes. This put the country in a place were nothing would change, as the people on top had absolute control and the people on the bottom wouldn't be able to improve their lifestyle. So overall, the financial problems weren't solved.
