  • Description:The first internal tax levied directly on American colonists by the British Parliament.Significance:Colonial resistance to the act mounted slowly at first, but gained momentum as the planned date of its implementation drew near.

  • Description:Four punitive measures enacted by the British-Parliament in retaliation for acts of colonial defiance.Significance: The oppresive measures became a justification for convening the first Continental Congress later in 1774.
  • Description: Tax and trade were made more loose, but Parliament wanted the colonies to still contribute to Britain.Significance Eased trade restrictions that allowed both American and British merchants to flourish.
