Storyboard Text

  • Does anyone ever mess up on this rule?
  • The first law of the land is the product rule, this rule states that when the bases are the same you keep the base and add the powers.
  • Since you guys came to this part of the land you need to learn about the laws of the land so ill teach you.
  • common mistakes people make with the product rule is forgetting to add the powers and then multiplying.
  • What the next rule and mistakes for it?
  • The next rule is the quotient rule, this rule says that when dividing exponents it the same base, keep the base and subtract the powers example:     4^9=4^9-6=4^3----4^6
  • A common mistake people make with this law is forgetting to keep the bases if they are the same.
  • how many more rules are there and tell us all of them so we will know!
  • Some common mistakes made with this rule is forgetting to add one to a base without a power.
  • okay there are 5 more rules and the next rule is the power rule, this rule says that to raise a power to a power multiply the exponents. example: (4^2)^5=4^2x5=4^10
  • example: -x^0=1   1,000^0=1
  • Common mistakes that people make when using this rule is forgetting that zero is equal to one.
  • The next rule is the zero rule, This rule states that any number raised to the zero power is one.
  • example: -x^-n=x1/n, 3^-5=1/3^5Common mistakes that people make when using this rule  is forgetting to write it as the reciprocal.
  • The next rule is negative exponents rule, this rule state that a negative exponent causes the number to be re-written as the reciprocal of the original and the exponent becomes a positive.
  • The next law is scientific notation, this rule is a way to write numbers using a power or ten (which a number system is based on) example: 5.6x10^-9 instead of 0.0000000056
  • Some mistakes that people make whenever using this rule is forgetting to change the power of ten to expanded form.
