- Normally modernization is associated with democratic countries, and non-democratic countries are not modernized
- Like Singapore!
- But Modernization can also lead to non-democratic rules. On the other hand, my country is non-democratic but its still modernized!
- As an elite of a non-democratic country, I don't want to give away my wealth. My company has control over the diamond mines here.
- As I run the state, I don't tax the people. Due to resource trap, like our state, non-democratic regimes can effectively subsidize themselves and elites do not need to give up their power and assets
- It is hindered by many societal divisions. This dissuade people from forming organizations. People view the state as the primary arena for social organizations, which causes them them to focus more on winning control over the state instead of building strong institutions. This is why we're nondemocratic!
- Our country doesn't have any organizations! We don't have a civil society! Even if we do, its ran and monitored by the government.
