Francis Pegahmagabow was known for his scouting and marksman ability but was recognized for his acts of courage as a messenger where he carried messages at Ypres, Festubert and Givenchy.

At Passchendaele Pegahmagabow was once again recognized for his act of courage when his division and two other British regiments took over Passchendaele and held it from Axis attacks for five days while waiting for reinforcements.
At the Battle of Scarpe Pegahmagabow was again recognized for his bravery when he crawled out of his trench and under machine gun fire in order to get ammunition for his company that was almost out and in danger of being surrounded by Axis forces.

Pegahmagabow received the military medal for delivering messages in Ypres, Festubert, and Givenchy. Received one bar on the medal for taking part in the siege and defense of Passchendaele and is one of 39 Canadians to receive a second bar for his acts of bravery at the battle of Scarpe.
After the war Francis Pegahmagabow returned to his reserve and became chief. He would live the rest of his life trying to fight for equal rights for first nation people before dying on August 5th 1952 at Parry Island .
