Kit starts teaching at the Dame School and is fascinated with Mercy's patience. Kit starts teaching a different way, by rhyming and the kids love it. Then, Kit has the idea of acting out the Bible and picks the wrong kids to play the part and Mercy and Kit cannot teach at the school since the kids who were picked started to fight and hurt each other.

You meet Hannah Tupper, and the whole town thinks she is a witch but Kit sees her as the opposite and Hannah helps her when Kit is crying in the meadow. Kit finds out that Hannah helped another person in the same way, and that person's name was none other than Nat Eaton and Kit and Nat become better friends when stopping by at Hannah's house.

Rachael, Judith, and Mercy find out that Kit has been going to Hannah's house and they tell her to never got back. THen Kit goes back because Hannah has done so much nice things and it would be rude to hat eher just because she's a Quaker.
Prudence keeps leaving flowers for Kit at the Dame School and Kit teaches her private lessons because her mother says she is too stupid for school and she meets Hannah. Prudence and Hannah start bonding more and become friends Prudence needs Hannah and Hannah needs Prudence.
Kit retinks marrying Kit and starts to like Nat. Since spending time with Hannah and talking with her, Nat and Kit has talked and bonded more by spending time with Hannah. When Nat comes to visit, it is always a pleasure for Kit to see him.
