  • He is a French physicist who founded and named the science of electrodynamics, now known as the electro magnetism.
  • His name endures in everyday life in the ampere, the unit for measuring electric current.
  • Who is André-Marie Ampère?
  • Best known for his work on electricity and electrochemistry, Faraday proposed the laws of electrolysis.
  • He also discovered benzene and other hydrocarbons. As a young man in London, Michael Faraday attended science lectures by the great Sir Humphry Davy.
  • What is Faraday famous for?
  • What is Hertz experiment?
  • The existence of electromagnetic waves was confirmed experimentally by Hertz in 1888.
  • This experiment is based on the fact that an oscillating electric charge radiates electromagnetic waves. The energy of these waves is due to the kinetic energy of the oscillating charge.
  • In his formulation of electromagnetism, Maxwell described light as a propagating wave of electric and magnetic fields.
  • What was Maxwell's electromagnetic theory?
  • More generally, he predicted the existence of electromagnetic radiation: coupled electric and magnetic fields traveling as waves at a speed equal to the known speed of light.
  • In the year 1820 Oersted discovered that a magnetic needle aligns itself perpendicularly to a current-carrying wire, definite experimental evidence of the relationship between electricity and magnetism.
  • Oersted is still known today for Oersted's Law, electric current, electromagnetism, piperine discovery and finally formulation of metallic aluminum.
  • What was discovered by Oersted?
