- but Otho didn't like that he wasn't Galba's heir, so he and the Praetorian Guard killed him
- After Nero brought an end to the Julio-Claudian Dynasty in 69 BCE
- Galba was made emperor by the Senate
- After losing the Battle of Bedriacum to Vitellius, Otho took his own life.
- Following a war between Vitellius and Vespasion, the former was executed by the latter's troops
- So, Vitellius was made emperor by the Senate.
- A few months later, legionaries of the eastern provinces declared Vespasian as the emperor.
- Vespasian took complete control of Rome, thus began the Flavian Dynasty.
- In 193, Commodus was murdered, primarily due to his paranoia-motivated executions
- The Praetorian Guard killed Pertinax due to his policy changes
- The Praetorian guard declared Didius Julianus as the emperor, as he paid the most for the position.
- Those behind the murder plot declared Pertinax as the emperor.
- Septimius Severus was declared as the emperor by his legions.
- After winning a war with Didius Julianus, Septimius Severus was made emperor by the Senate.
- Pescennius was declared as the emperor by his legions and Clodius Albinus was made Caesar.
