During 1791-1792, the governing body in France was the Legislative Assembly. A governing body has the power exercise governance over a political entity. In this case, King Louis XVI is the political entity. The king now had limited power due to the creation of the new constitution. There were groups in the Legislative Assembly, such as, the radicals, moderates, and the conservatives.
RISE OF NAPOLEON
In August of 1792, monarchy was abolished. The government was falling apart. In September, there was revolutions happening here and there. These were called the September revolutions. In the same month, however, they declared republic. There was an important man who played a role in the revolution. His name is Jean-Paul Marat. Jean-Paul Marat was a radical journalist and would contribute revolutionary ideas.
The Reign of Terror was a scary and horrible period in France. Living in a republic government was just as bad as living under monarchy. King Louis XVI was charged with treason and was set to die to a guillotine. A man who rose above all was Robespierre. Robespierre led the Committee of Public Safety. He assumed that anyone could be dangerous, so he would kill anyone who seemed like a threat.
