After the Industrial Revolution, European nations needed resources. They took over Africa because it had many important resources and places for new market opportunities. The European nations started imperializing other countries because hey thought they were the best rulers which came from the belief of Social Darwinism.
In 1566 the Ottoman Empire began to weaken. It started when the last great Sultan, Suelyman I, died. This was followed by many weak Sultans and caused the empire to become very weak. After weakening, the Ottoman Empire became a very geopolitical location because it was so weak. This caused the Europeans to try to take it over.
The Russians had constantly launched war on the Ottomans to try to gain land on the Black Sea. In 1853, a war broke out between them.It was called the Crimean war named after the peninsula the war was fought on. Britain and France joined the war on the side of the Ottomans side to prevent Russia from gaining more land.
In 1857, there was a rumor being spread by the Sepoys that the British's new guns were greased with beef and pork fat. This upset the Sepoys because this meant they would have to bite this fat and that was against their religion. The Sepoys decided to rebel starting the Sepoy Mutiny
In 879, the British had tried to take over the Zulu nation. The Zulus refused to accept the British rule and fought back. They lost the way and the British took over in 1887.
In 1884, the 14 European nations met at the Berlin Conference in order to evenly split Africa to prevent war.
