- Jonas and his family are getting ready to go to the ceremony his mother is doing his sister's hair. Lily doesn't like it because she believes she can do it herself, but her mother know that they always become a mess at the end of the day so she decides that she will do it.
- I can tie them myself, I always have.
- I know that, but I also know that they constantly come loose and more often than not...
- Jonas has been selected, Jonas has been selected to be to be our next Receiver of Memory.

- Jonas was not assigned like everyone else he was worried but the Chief Elder told him that he was selected to be their new Receiver of Memory. All the adults in the crowd were shocked but even so Jonas and all the other children did not understand what that meant.
- I still don't understand what that means, I'm confused

- Jonas has met up with former Receiver of Memory he had many questions for the man but he didn't ask any of them. He knew that this is his new job and he needs to know what to do but the man says they do not have time to talk about his life and memories.
- Simply stated, although it's not really simple at all, my job is to transmit to you all the memories I have within me. Memories of the past.
- Sir, I would be very interested to hear the story of your life, and listen to your memories, I apologize for interrupting.
