Storyboard Text

  • Lazada recently recruited specialised foreign workers, Jason and Grace, in aid for their upcoming project. Whilst working together with their current local employees, the company faces a communication problem due to cultural differences.
  • The manager assigns the employees for a project called Lazadamart. Two employees have to work with each other. Jason has poor grammar. They start to work with each other and he explains to Grace but she understood it in a different way and things start to go wrong from there.
  • The new feature was explained poorly by Jason to Grace, and she is in charge of handling PR. Hence, when the message finally gets out, it completely misleads the public. The higher hierarchy then finds out about it.
  • The higher ups blamed both Jason and Grace hence slowing down the progress of the project. Both parties are not optimistic about this project anymore and tension rises among them.
  • The project had to be postponed and both Jason and Grace had to eventually leave the project as it gets handed over to the other employees to work on. Jason gets sent for training while Grace learns the culture of the country as she settles in. The three communication barriers imposed in this scenario would be cultural differences, language barrier as well as filtered information.
  • Above we discussed the common communication barriers within an organisation. The problems explored above were cultural differences, language barrier and filtered information. By pinpointing the problem at hand, the organisation can work on the issues immediately and they can also minimise problems like these arising in the future.
