My favorite part of the plot was how the protagonist's life went on a sort of rollercoaster, with a beginning incline, his rising social status, then he stops, being so well-known that people regularly say hi to him, to suddenly and very quickly going down to a mere peasant in the end. It makes the book feel more like real life.
I think that it was a great book. It was well-written, had no plot holes, and followed what was expected of a great novel with some extra twists and turns. I would recommend it to anyone with a taste for more intellectual reading material, or if they just like a good story. However, I would not recommend it to the "happily ever after" types.
