- Santiago (The Old Man) is sad that his first mate is leaving because he cant fish.
- Santiago fishes wishing that his first mate could be with him to see how pretty the ocean was.
- Santiago hooks the biggest fish in his life and vows to fight till the death for it after an 85 day dry spell.
- Santiago got the huge fish in after 2 days of fighting it then out of no where a shark started to eat it.
- Santiago brings his half eaten scraps left of the fish to show his first mate and he was happy to see him.
- After it was all over Santiago sat back and reflected of how he may have won the battle with the fish but the sea still won the war.
