Oh no we aren't! Our fins look similar because they are analogous structures!
Mom look! They have the same fins as us! Are we related?
Well first off, penguins have fin-like structures called flippers. We use our fins to work our way through the water, but penguins use their flippers to navigate through water and land.
What the heck does that even mean?
Well that's not fair! Fish and penguins are basically the same, so why are penguins not called fish too?
Penguins flippers are considered to be wings because penguins are known as birds!
Analogous structures are when 2 different species have structures that have a similar function and resemblance but come from a different origin.
I still don't get it...
Ohhhh..So because penguins are birds and we are fishes, we all have fins because it's the feature that works best for us in our environment. This does not mean we are related!
Okay listen. Penguin and fish have fins that have evolved to do the same thing, help us navigate through water, and for penguins land too. But that does not mean that we are related.
Whaaattt
Hey! Mister penguins!Did you know that penguins and fish have fins that are analogous structures?!
