Storyboard Text

  • In the early 16th century, the Church was full of corruption. Priests were doing unholy things, like selling indulgences and the popes failed to provide any spiritual leadership.
  • I'm not sure about this...
  • Ok.
  • If you donate 5 pounds of gold coins to the Church, you will suffer less for your sins.
  • I have no idea how to guide people.
  • Martin Luther was a German monk who nailed his 95 theses on a door critcizing the Church. The printing press also made him go viral. This lead many people including Catholics to start listening to him and leave the Church causing the Protestant Reformation.
  • The Church is corrupt!
  • I shall no longer be Catholic, the 95 Theses have convinced me to convert.
  • Martin Luther had four main beliefs he taught to his followers, sola scriptura, sola fide, sola gratia, and sola christo.
  • Sola gratia means any good action is a result of God's grace. We are incapable of freely doing good.
  • Sola scriptura means that tradition and the pope have no place in the Church. The bible is all you need.
  • Sola christo means Christ must be the only content of scripture.
  • Sola fide means that good works will not make you righteous.
  • The Church responded to the Protestant Reformation by holding the Council of Trent in 1545. It discussed the true teachings of the Church.
  • Sola fide is wrong, we need faith and good works to have salvation.
  • The pope is the leader of the Church.
  • Authority from the Church is founded on scripture and tradition.
  • There are 7 sacraments, not 2.
  • Calvinism is wrong, all people have free will.
  • Christ is present in the consecrated wine and bread.
  • 4. Protestants believe in sola scriptura.
  • 1. Protestants don't see the pope as God's leader on Earth.
  • 5. Most Protestants don't believe Jesus is the full body, blood, soul, and divinity in the Eucharist we receive at church.
  • 3. Most Protestants don't believe in purgatory.
  • 2. Most Protestants don't pray to Mary and the saints.
  • 5 Differences Between Protestants and Catholics
  • We the Jesuits, a new order, are performing missions to convert people from other groups due to the schisms in the Church.  We care greatly about education.
  • Although many people left the Church, new orders such as the Jesuits and Ursulines were founded. Priest now had more regulated training and corruption and abuse was fixed.
  • I am now a newly trained priest and I can serve God well.
  • We the Ursulines believe education, especially for girls, is important.
