  • When Cuba rebelled for a second time, they sent 150,000 troops and their best general, Valeriano Weyler to end it. Cubans used yellow journalism to hopefully bring the United States to help them.
  • No reconcentration camps!
  • The U.S.S. Maine was a battleship that was in Havana. It exploded in 1898 and killed over 250 American sailors. No one knows what really caused the explosion but they think it was caused by a fire that set off ammunition.

  • In the Treaty of Paris, it stated that Spain gave the United States the Philippines, Puerto Rico, and the Pacific island of Guam.
