- African Swine Fever (ASF) is a highly infectious viral illness of pigs that causes severe illness and high death rate in pigs/hogs, responsible for serious economic and production losses. The Philippines is one of the countries that has been hit hard by the outbreaks of ASF since 2019. Because of the severe pork supply shortage, the prices of pork meat have skyrocketed!
- Oh my! Mica, have you heard about the news?
- Huh? Which one?
- The one about African Swine Fever! It is said that the government lifted the price ceiling on pork as the ASF crisis is still raging.
- Oh! So that's why the supplies we received are limited than usual. Swine fever continues to affect local production of hogs nationwide!
- Uh-huh. Some pork butchers even raised the price to 36% higher because the supply that they have been getting is very low.
- Really? We definitely need to increase the prices of our pork meat, then.
- Yeah. From our average pork price, Php 290.00, we should escalate it to Php 320.00. Do you think that's fine?
