- The Bookers were a family of farmers in Nebraska, who grew wheat and corn.
- They had always had great success until their father, Harold gambled their money away and the stock market crashed
- Afterwards, the dust bowl came and wiped out their crops, leaving them with nothing.
- He couldn't withdraw any of the money he had from the banks, since all of them had closed.
- Bank
- The farming equipment was bought on an installment plan during WW1, and without any profit they were unable to pay it back. They went into debt and lost their home.
