Athena expresses that she pities Odysseus who has been cursed to Kalypso's island and hopes that Zeus would free him from the curse and allow him to travel home.
Athena plans to intervene with Odysseus's life and help him. She then pays Telemachus a visit in a disguise as Mantes, an old friend of Odysseus.
Athena, or now Mantes is welcomed into the house with Penelope's intruding suitors who are feasting away at all of Penelope's and Telemachus's supplies.
Telemachus talks to Athena about Odysseus of how he believes he is dead and all the troubles him and his mom are facing in their home because of the suitors. Athena assures Telemachus that Odysseus is not dead.
With Athena (Mantes) realizing that the suitors are extremely intrusive, and have been overstaying their stay, she encourages Telemachus to tell the suitors to leave his home.
Taking Athena's advise, Telemachus finds the courage to stand up to the suitors. He demands the suitors to leave his home because they have been overstaying, but Antonius rejects the demand.
