Storyboard Text

  • In 1868, Canada purchased Rupert's Land From HBC, Metis people were not happy because they did not get any input in this matter. They were also worried about what might happen to their rights.
  • 1869- Surveyors were sent by the Canadian Government and where stopped by Louis Riel who told them to leave. Riel became spokesman for the Métis insurgents, who managed to halt the Canadian surveyors and prevent the governor-designate, William McDougall, from entering Red River.

  • 1869-1870, Fort Garry was seized by Louis Riel and his Métis followers during the Red River Rebellion.
