- Today we will learn the difference between Equity and Equality. But for this lesson we will go to the playground and I will be using three helpers.
- For my first example we will discuss equality. I will give each of you the same resource in order to look over this fence at the new football field.
- Now I have given each of you the same chance to look over that fence but only one of you can.Although its all equal resources its not considering everyone situation such as different heights in this case
- Now lets talk about equity. In this situation I will consider each of your circumstances when it comes to different heights and find the best way for all of you to see over that wall and get a fair chance based upon your circumstance,
- Now even though you all have different number of boxes each of you can now see over the wall
- This activity shows the difference between equity and equality. You see equality was giving everyone the same resources but not acknowledging the difference. Equity with the boxes allowed each of the students to have the same outcome even if there supplies and resources used were slighly different.
