Mary Maloney was a loving and outgoing wife to her husband partick. Everyday she sat and waited excited for her husband to get home from work. she would watch the tick away as time gets closer to her husband being home.
Partrick came home from work and was very distant with mary. He was drinking all his whiskey in one gulf, so mary knew something was wrong with him. She tried to make him dinner but he refused to eat and wanted to go out.
Mary was in a state of shock, and she went to the freezer to grab some meat to cook dinner. Mary kills her husband by hitting him over the head with a frozen leg of lamb. The characters assumed he wanted to leave her.
Mary then puts the lamb leg in the oven, fixes her makeup, and leaves the house to go to the grocery store. Mary did this to create her alibi. she seemed happy despite sher just killed her husband.
when mary walked home from the grocery store, she saw her husband and ran over to him in tears. She called the police and they came fairly quicky. When they arrived, Mary told the poilice her alibi and they went down to groery store to make sure her alibi was true. Mary had gotten away with the murder of her own husband.
Mary asked the police men to eat the leg of lamb in the kitchen because she couldnt finish it. One of the police men said that the murder wepon is prbably right under are noses. This is an example of verbal irony. It is verbal irony because it was right under there noses.
