  • Events Leading to the Revolutionary War
  • Tea Act
  • The Townshend Acts were ratified in 1767. They put taxes on everyday things such as glass, tea, paint, and paper. The act was not taken well among Colonists, causing outrages, and starting wants of boycotts.
  • Boston Tea Party
  • TEA
  • On March 5, 1775, tensions from the Townshend Acts grew too high, and a mob began to through debris at British Loyalists, and Red Coats, causing an outrage. Several people died, and the event was publicized by patriots Paul Revere and Sam Adams.
  • Outcome
  • In 1773, Parliament repealed the Townshend Acts, leaving a tax on tea, or the Tea Act, which taxed all tea, to bail out the British East India Company, and create large profits from the taxation. This heavily angered the colonists, asking to boycott the Tea Act.
  • On December 16, 1773, Colonists decided they'd had enough, and organized a scheme to throw tea into the harbor. Some Colonists were dressed as Native Americans to not be identified doing so. 92,000 lbs of tea, or 342 crates were thrown overboard that night. This event was significant, because it was the first grand scale act of treason against the government.
  • Through all conflict, eventually the Revolutionary War broke out, and became an incredibly significant piece of United States history, getting us independence from Britain
