Storyboard Text

  • Before Sarah, Parker, and Robin exit the bus that afternoon, the bus pulls to a stop. An outside force must have acted upon it to make it stop, according to Newton's first law of motion. In this case, the outside force is the brake, caused by the driver hitting is so the kids could exit safely.
  • When Sarah and Parker arrive home, they want to watch TV but the beanbag chairs are in the way. So, they decide to move them. Only there is a slight problem, Sarah is smaller and less strong, therefore it takes a lot for her to even get the chair to budge. Parker, however, moves his easily without a problem and the reason for these occurrences is shown by Newton's second law of motion. This law highlights that the mass multiplied by acceleration of the object equals the amount of force applied on the object. So, even though the chairs are the same mass, Parker is pushing harder so his chair is bound to move faster and easier.
  • After watching some TV, they decide to go sit outside by the fire and talk. They wonder this - how do their chairs hold them up? Its a pretty good question, so they ask their mom. Their mom says this: "Well guys, that is a very intelligent question. The answer is Newton's third law of motion. The third law states that each action has an equal and opposite reaction. So, that means that by you sitting down, you are exerting a force down on the chair, and the chair pushes right up against you.
