Storyboard Text

  • Each year on the 25th of April many people get up very early and go to a dawn ANZAC service. The service is to help people remember the Australian and New Zealand soldiers who died in World War I.
  • In 1915 many ANZAC and British soldiers landed in the Gallipoli Peninsula.
  • When the soldiers arrived they were very surprised to find the Turkish soldiers waiting for them and shooting at them.
  • The soldiers being attacked had to dig trenches in the sand to shelter from the line of fire from the Turkish solders.
  • The Turkish soldiers would add pieces of grass and leaves to their uniforms to camouflage themselves in the grass.
  • Even though this made things much harder for the ANZAC soldiers they had a way to be able to shoot at their enemy without being exposed to return fire, by using mirrors to direct their aim.
