  • John the Baptist is a man chosen by God to prepare the way for the people to meeting the person who will come after him, Jesus Christ, whom is the Son of God the people of Israel have been waiting for thousands of years, a descendent of King David. His birth fulfilled the prophecy made by Isaiah in the Old Testament, where God spoke through Isaiah about how he would send a messenger who will prepare people's way to Jesus. He lived in the wilderness, wearing clothing made of a camel's hair, a belt made of leather, and ate locusts and wild honey.
  • To prepare people's way to Jesus, one of the things John the Baptist did was preaching people who came to him from Judea and Jerusalem about a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. He preached how after him will come a man who is more powerful and mightier than he is, so much so that he is not even worthy to untie his straps of his sandals, and that man will not baptise with water like he did, but he will baptise people with the Holy Spirit
  • After me comes he who is mightier than I, the thong of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie. I have baptized you with water; but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit
  • John the Baptist also baptized people in a river called Jordan, where people would confess their sins and cleanse themselves into more purity.
